"Prayer Beads"
Gifts of Faith
During travels in Europe and the Middle East, I was fortunate to receive as gifts items of importance to people I met, such as prayer beads. In this personal project, I wanted to capture the different types and styles of the but with textured backgrounds that would accentuate the particular set of beads.
Gear and Shoot
Canon 5D MK IV
Manfrotto tripod with ball head
Westcott Beauty Dish (Handheld)
Canon 430xi III Speedlight
Each item was placed on a 50% grey foam board and imaged from an overhead position. I handheld the flash to give directional lighting and then blended the images for depth and contrast. Using the 50% grey background allowed me to use a variety of overlays and textures. I then applied a tin type border for the finished look.
To the right is a Polish rosary with cross from the Benedictine Abby in Tyniec, Krakow.
A Tiger eye stone Tasbih from Cairo. This is not the typical prayer beakds for Egyptians which will usually have the Ankh medallion.
Catholic rosary with Miraculous Medal centerpiece. Know as the Medal of Immaculate conception. Believed to bring special intercessions on behalf of the Virgin Mary if worn with faith and devotion at the hour of death.
